Top 5 Wakeboards For 200+ LB Riders

December 16, 2021

So how do you go about picking a wakeboard when you’ve got the soul of a pint-sized pro, but the build of an NFL linebacker?

If you find yourself over that 200lb mark, some boards on the smaller size might not be your cup of tea. Luckily, wakeboard manufacturers have noticed the trend of bigger boards becoming more popular, and they have adapted. All of the boards on this list are specifically designed to be ridden behind the boat, with the exception of the Nomad, which can be ridden behind the board and at a cable park. Is bigger really better? We can't say for sure, but we do know that a bigger board will provide for a more stable ride, the ability to get on plane at lower speeds, and have more controlled landings thanks to the added surface are.

1. Hyperlite Murray – 150cm

If you’re looking for a board that won’t hold you back when hard charging the wake and going huge, the Murray is the answer. Featuring a subtle 3-Stage rocker, this board will give you tons of pop off the wake, and the molded landing feature will provide you with soft landings as your making your way down from the stratosphere. Additionally, the Murray features Hyperlite’s Biolite 3 core which keeps the board super light and makes spinning and flipping even easier.

2. Ronix District - 150cm

The District is commonly known as the “chameleon of wakeboards”, and for good reason. This board has the rare trait of adapting to your riding style and ability. If you want an aggressive pop, approach the wake flat and you will feel an explosive 3-stage boost. If you want a smoother and more consistent takeoff and landing, approach the wake with an edge and on rail. Whichever riding style you have, the District can adapt to.

3. Slingshot Nomad – 150cm-160cm

The Nomad can be credited with starting the “big board movement” back in 2015, and we can see the impact this board has had on the industry. Offered all the way up to a 160cm, this board gives you enough surface area to land a plane on, well...maybe a really small one. The Nomad features a continuous rocker, which will make the board feel fast on the water, but won't give you an explosive pop off the wake like a traditional 3-Stage or Hybrid rocker will. Looking for a board that can handle days behind the boat as well as having the ability to shred the cable? The Nomad is a great choice.

4. Ronix Parks – 145cm

Parks Bonifay has been wakeboarding for a long time, a really long time. Back in the day he used to like an aggressive and explosive board, but that has since changed. To adapt to his new riding style the Parks features a smooth arc in the rocker that creates a predictable pop off the wake, while also creating more glide speed that is sure to put less strain on your body during those long sets. Additionally, the Parks features a sidecut that allows for more effective edge while cutting through the water. Sounds fancy, but that sidecut just translates to more “grip” while riding. Not only does this board edge well, it also has a playful feel thanks to the dimples along the base which allow the board to break free easily.

5. Liquid Force Trip – 144cm

The Trip has been around for quite some time, 25 years and counting. The Trip has evolved over the years to adapt to today’s bigger wakes by adding some rocker, this aggressive continuous rocker will give you plenty of pop without taking away too much speed. Liquid Force has also added some width to the tip and tail to create additional pop, and some added surface area. The Trip features longer molded in fins which allow riders to easily transition between riding without the center fin, as the molded in fins give you plenty of traction on the water.
